UST A/B Tank Inspections
We are Certified UST A/B Operators here at Petroleum Management Services (PMSI). What does that mean to you? The definition of A/B Operators, according to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is as follows:
A class A operator may be the owner/operator, an employee or a contractor with general knowledge and understanding of the UST system for which s/he is designated the operator. A class B Operator may be the owner/operator, an employee or a contractor with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the UST system(s) for which s/he is designated the operator, and how to operate and maintain the system(s), as well as the federal and state regulatory requirements that apply to the system(s).
Just like the Third Party Inspections, A/B Inspections are required by state and federal regulations to all underground regulated tanks. A/B inspections are performed monthly and inspect all areas of the tank from the fittings, piping and vents to the overspill / overfill protection systems, and monitoring system components. We make detailed records of each monthly inspection and while these inspections are not required to be filed with the state, the owner of the tank must keep record of each A/B inspection to remain in compliance.
Another responsibility we have as A/B Operators, is to train your class C operator. We will train your operator on the components of your tank(s), proper emergency procedures and response to alarms at the facility. As a class C operator, the responsibility of overseeing tank function is a 24/7 job. But with our oversight, should there ever been a problem, we are a phone call away.
