Named after Toppesfield, England; Topsfield, Massachusetts is a suburb of Boston. Originally home to the Agawam tribe, Topsfield was settled by colonists by 1643. Topsfield is rich in history, from playing a heavy hand during the Salem Witch Trials to being an important part of the development of Route 128. What was once a small farm town is now a bustling suburban, residential community. But not all of Topsfields farm town charm has been lost in modern day. They still hold the annual Topsfield Fair every fall since 1818. The fair boasts rides, games and traditional competitions for livestock and produce. Residents take especially great pride in showcasing their pumpkins, the largest weighing in at 2,009 lbs in 2012.
